2007 Budget.
Governor Perdue has given agencies directions for their proposals to the Office of Planning and Budget on the SFY 2007 budget the General Assembly will consider in the 2006 legislative session. Agencies are now formulating their plans. Contact the Departments of Community Health, Human Resources, Juvenile Justice, Education, Labor, and others now to make your recommendations.
Medicaid and PeachCare.
These programs are undergoing major change over the next few months as the Department of Community Health moves Medicaid families and PeachCare children into pre-paid care management organizations similar to HMOs during 2006. This change will mean major adjustments for most Medicaid patients and their care providers. In addition, the implementation of the Medicare Part B prescription drug program which goes into effect January 1, 2006, will change the way thousands of elderly or disabled Medicaid patients who are also eligible for Medicare receive their medications. While these undertakings are in progress, Governor Perdue is preparing a request to the federal government for a waiver of the usual Medicaid rules to allow the state to "experiment" with the program in ways that could endanger coverage for patients.
